International Brewing Methods and Beer Styles is conducted in English and covers how beer is brewed around the world. It is grounded in history to provide context to the various methods, equipment and ingredients used by brewers located in the various parts of Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas. The domestication of cereal grains and hops as well as the development of brewing methods over time and the regional differences that arose in the last few centuries to provide us with the beer we find in the world today are all covered in this course.
The instructor is Christopher McGreger, a US-American who studied Anthropology and Central European History at the University of Texas in Austin and Brewing Science and Beverage Engineering at the TUM-Weihenstephan and who has written a well-received book from which some of the course material will be taken: The Beer Brewing Guide – EBC Quality Handbook for Small Breweries.
