Welcome to Computer Science Basics!
This self-learning module is designed to provide you with a solid foundation in computer science, requiring no prior experience. It will prepare you for your first programming course in the coming semester 1 and support you throughout the M-DF program.
The module covers the core concepts of computer science: how computers work, bits and bytes, variables and data types, logical operations, vectors and matrices, and programming paradigms.
How to work through each module:
- Watch the intro video: each module starts with a short video. Watching it first gives you a feel for the topic before reading about it.
- Go through the slides: read them carefully, as they explain each concept step by step with clear examples.
- Try Quiz: a quick, low-pressure way to check what has sunk in.
- Work through the exercise sheet: In the end, try to solve the exercise sheet, where the real learning happens.
Solutions are given as well for each exercise, but try the questions yourself first before checking them. Struggling with a problem, even briefly, is one of the most effective ways to learn.
If you have any difficulty with a topic, please do not hesitate to get in touch. We are always happy to help!
